The chief of the US military's Special Operations Command (SOCOM) wants greater autonomy in dispatching elite killer squads to every corner of the globe. JSOC units have been involved in some of the worst atrocities in the Middle East. They carried out wholesale assassinations of opponents of the Iraqi occupation and were implicated in systematic torture of detainees. JSOC, like the CIA, has been empowered to draw up kill lists of alleged terrorists and launch assassination missions. Unlike the CIA, it is not required to secure a “presidential finding” authorizing lethal covert operations, or submit to congressional oversight. Special operations forces have already been deployed in over 75 countries.

Once a prisoner has been executed in the US, prosecutors steadfastly oppose reopening cases to conduct post-mortem DNA checks or consider any new evidence. The reasoning is obvious: The dead cannot be brought back, and it may bring the system of justice into severe disrepute. The U.S. is virtually the only democracy left in the death-penalty club. America's enthusiasm for executions is exceeded only by places like China, Iran and North Korea. Those countries just write off the occasional execution of an innocent as the cost of doing business. But when you hear some of the Americans in this article being executed, steadfastly proclaiming their innocence with their dying breath, while calmly condemning the justice system for its pursuit of blatant murder, it becomes unnerving for everyone witnessing.

The rise of America's privatized prisons is directly related to the explosion in incarceration rates says author -- over 722% per capita since the 70's. Human avarice, and the resulting legions of opportunists bought, are the wedge they drive to break and restructure power structures throughout the world. The core ethic is simple self interest at the expense of the rest, little different than the animal kingdom ethos.

The neutering and privatization of public wealth was the fundimental agenda of the neo-con ascension to power that began with the Thatcher / Reagan era. Children who have experienced physical punishment tend to be more aggressive toward parents, siblings, peers and, later, spouses, and are more likely to develop antisocial behaviour. Physical punishment is also associated with a variety of mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety and use of drugs and alcohol. Pain from punishment could disrupt parent-child attachment, increase levels of the stress hormone cortisol, or interfere with how the brain regulates stress. When parents in more than 500 families were trained to reduce their use of physical punishment, the difficult behaviours in the children also declined.

The incremental and insidious loss of Canadian sovereignty by stealth, in a deep integration union with the United States (according to their regulations and practices) was planned from the very outset of the Free Trade deal. Paul Hellyer, former deputy Prime Minister of Canada, says documents at the time showed that the Free Trade deal was only the first step in union with the US. And NorthCom, a division of the US military, now proudly proclaims that its command mandate is "to extend military jurisdiction over sea, land and civil forces North American wide". Accordingly, NorthCom is officially charged with the defence of the United States, Porto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Canada and Mexico.

Russian partnership tactic with US fading. Alternatively, the Russia / Germany partnership is doing very well, and combined with China's might, may well signal the decline of NATO hegemony in Eurasia. Russia has now threatened to close its borders to US supply lines to Afghanistan, thus ending the war there for a secure seaport pipeline route to the Caspian basin oil reserves. And Russia says the START ballistic missile treaty is also jeopardized as a result of new technologies its been forced to develop for defence. Combined with recent Russian arms sales to Syria, and intervention on behalf of the Serbs in Kosovo, a new chapter in New World Order hegemony seems about to unfold.

The net effect of the establishment of the EU was to optimize the empowerment of European corporations, and to play labour groups off against each other. Germany especially benefitted, and strengthened its dominant position, while weak states have grown even weaker. German industry has more than doubled its exports since the introduction of the euro. In 2007, it recorded a trade surplus of nearly €200 billion, while 19 of the 27 EU members recorded a foreign trade deficit. The euro ensured that the German currency remained stable and comparatively low in value both at the European and international level, which was extremely advantageous for the German export industry. Had the German mark been retained, its exchange rate would have increased significantly. The introduction of the euro had the opposite effect on the economically weaker countries of southern and eastern Europe. Their trade and industry were unable to compete with imports from the stronger member countries. Prices—and, to a lesser extent, wages—rose and undermined competitiveness. Unlike in the past, this situation could no longer be redressed by a devaluation of national currencies. The widening gap was not immediately visible. The introduction of the euro gave the weaker countries access to loans at favourable rates. This triggered construction and speculation booms in Spain and Ireland. However, only the elite and certain sections of the middle classes benefited, while the euro meant rising prices for the working class from the very start as well as overwhelming competition for small businesses. The boom finally burst with the outbreak of the international financial crisis, European banks had invested heavily in toxic US bonds. Within a short period, the total debt of the Irish state rose from 25 percent of GDP to 100 percent because the government decided to issue a guarantee covering all of the speculative losses of the banks.

Historical review of the 1971 Attica prison riot. Except for the state crimes against first nations, this event is considered the most bloody one day encounter between Americans since the US civil war. Twenty nine prisoners and 10 of their hostages were gunned down, as 3000 rounds of ammo were indiscriminately fired into the teargas filled courtyard at Attica prison. The primary intent was to teach future prisoners a get tough lesson. And police and guards went on a vindictive rampage against the largely black and Porto Rican prisoners afterwards, committing despicable mass torture and targeted executions. President Nixon and governor Rockefeller (who decided the retaliatory course of action) gloated over the success of the endeavour, saying the loss of a few hostages was well worth the price.

Good news for a change. Central banks open the U.S. dollar taps. The European "death spiral" is thus being addressed. Thus proving the continuation of the EU has value to the financial elite, who are basically engineering world consumption downsizing with all this smoke and mirrors economic hocus-pocus. None the less, they're offering a much softer landing for the EU then the 50% decline of productivity projected by yesterday's OECD report.

World depression is forecast if Euro breaks up says OECD report. Economists agree, saying EU production generally could fall by 50%, "a crisis of apocalyptic proportions". Italy's bond yield is weighed so heavily by the market that its industrial growth will have to rise to over 8% just to avert higher interest charges from its debt to GDP ratio, an unsustainable and hopeless circumstance. (Although a valuable insight, this socialist article blames capitalism per se for the slow motion train wreck that's unfolding, instead of the decline of the world oil supply that's the real cause.)
